Community United to Reduce Bingeing (CURB)

The CURB Project is a Together for Youth & County Alcohol and Drug Programs Project.

What is binge drinking?
The technical definition: Binge drinking is the consumption of alcohol to extent that harmful consequences can be expected. A binge brings the blood alcohol content up to 0.08

So, how many drinks is that? Typically, it's 5 drinks in 2 hours if you're a guy and 4 drinks in 2 hours for girls.

What can happen when you binge drink?
There are many possible consequences associated with binge drinking: Some of these are obvious, like increased chances of being in a car accident, or suffering injuries from falls and other drinking-related accidents.  Some are not as obvious, like increased rates of assault and sexual assault, unintended pregnancies and higher STD rates.  The additional noise, vandalism and trash associated with drinking can also get you into trouble.

Alcohol poisoning- Alcohol is a depressant, when large amounts are consumed in a relatively short amount of time your body can't process the alcohol.  As your blood alcohol content goes up your body becomes less able to handle the alcohol.  Very high blood alcohol levels can cause you to lose consciousness, suffer respiratory arrest and can cause death.  Death is also a risk if after losing consciousness you begin to throw up-- this can cause you to choke to death.

If you're with someone who passes out from drinking, don't leave them alone.

Also, there's the chance that you can lose your license--remember, if you're under 21 it's illegal to drive if your blood alcohol level (BAC) is over 0.01!
